The Art of Personalization: Why Our Rugs Stand Out

Rug Design Process

When people think about custom rugs, they usually imagine either rugs designed by combining their favorite patterns or rugs featuring portraits. However, our approach stands apart, deeply rooted in ancient traditions and rich in symbolic meaning. We believe that a rug should not only be a visual delight but also a profound reflection of personal stories, heritage, and individuality.

Our journey into the art of customization began with a fascination for Banna’i, an ancient architectural decorative art form renowned for its intricate and aesthetically pleasing designs. Historically, Banna’i utilized Kufic script to create ornaments by arranging religious names into beautiful geometric patterns. The beauty of Banna’i lies not just in its visual appeal but in its ability to convey stories and messages through its decorative elements. Inspired by this tradition, we sought to bring the same level of depth and significance to our rugs.

Rather than using Kufic script, we employ either runic script or kanji to craft our designs. Each rug we create is a canvas that tells a unique story through these ancient characters. This method allows us to customize rugs at both thematic and personal levels, making each piece a one-of-a-kind treasure.

For instance, if a customer wants to honor their family, we write the word “family” in runic script. These runes are then arranged to form an ornament, which is incorporated into the pattern to create a geometric all-over design. This is personalization at the thematic level. At a personal level, we incorporate the customer’s birth rune into the rug, arranging it in such a way that it also forms an ornament. This symbolizes the individual, adding a unique and personal touch to the rug.

The same approach is applied with kanji for those who prefer it. The chosen theme, such as family, is written in kanji and then artistically arranged into an ornamental pattern. This thematic personalization, combined with personal elements like the customer’s birth kanji, creates a deeply meaningful and individualized rug.

By weaving these personal and thematic elements into the fabric of the rug, we ensure that each piece is a unique reflection of the individual’s journey and values. Our rugs are not merely products; they are personal narratives, woven with love and steeped in tradition. Each ornament and motif is carefully arranged to create a semiotic relationship, where every element of the rug contributes to the larger narrative.

While we do not claim that our rugs are the most beautiful, we take pride in their individuality and the deep connection they foster with their owners. Each rug is a testament to personal stories, cultural heritage, and cherished memories. This connection to individuality is what makes our rugs stand out in the world of customization. Our rugs are crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail, ensuring that every knot and weave contributes to the overall narrative. The result is a rug that is not just a decorative item but a meaningful artifact that holds a special place in the owner’s heart.

In essence, our approach to rug customization is about more than aesthetics. It’s about creating pieces that are deeply rooted in individuality and rich in meaning. By drawing inspiration from the ancient art of Banna’i and utilizing either runic script or kanji, we offer a unique and thoughtful way to celebrate personal stories through our rugs. Each rug is a testament to the beauty of personalization, crafted with care to ensure it becomes a cherished part of the owner’s life for years to come.
